Ingrown Toenails
Ingrown toenails can be a painful and frustrating foot problem, particularly if the problem is recurring. Ingrown toenails develop when a part of your nail pierces the skin that surrounds it and continues to grow into it, making wearing of shoes and walking extremely uncomfortable. There are multiple reasons for ingrown toenails developing. This could include ill-fitting footwear, poor nail cutting techniques, trauma to the toenail or sporting activities such as soccer, football or netball, it can also be hereditary based on the shape of the nail.
Ingrown toenails can be resolved through conservative treatment by your podiatrist, which is most suited if you do not have a history of ingrown nails, and it was caused by a once off, for example, tight shoes, which you will cease wearing. If you have a history of ingrown toenails or the ingrown nail is likely to reoccur, a minor surgery is recommended.
The best way to decide if ingrown toenail surgery is the right option for you is to book in for an appointment with our podiatrists. We’ll assess your toe, review your history, and discuss both your surgical and non-surgical treatment options so that you have all the information you need to make an informed choice.
